Chris Vermeulen took his, and Rizla Suzuki's, debut MotoGP pole position today in Turkey. The Australian dominated a rain-soaked qualifying session on his GSV-R, in what was a complete turn around for the team after a disastrous Qatar Grand Prix. |

Nicky Hayden was the quickest rider of the day today during free practice for the second Turkish MotoGP. Rookie Casey Stoner headed the timesheets for all of FP1 and most of FP2, but after a low-speed crash towards the end of the session the Aussie rider lost momentum. |

Following Rizla Suzuki's disastrous Qatar MotoGP, in which both John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen retired from the race with technical problems, team manager Paul Denning has said that Suzuki have 'been burning a lot of midnight oil' in preperation for the Turkish MotoGP. |

Marco Melandri was the quickest rider yesterday during the post-race test at the Losail circuit. After spending the day working on the weight distribution of his Honda RCV Melandri was positive, saying he liked the new configuration a lot and that even if the problem is not totally fixed there has been 'a big step forward'. |

Rookie Randy de Puniet's Qatar MotoGP was over in just half a lap, making it two retirements in two races for the Frenchman. Team-mate Shinya Nakano finished in eleventh place which a blunt Harald Eckl described as 'a bitter disappointment'. |

It was a difficult Qatar GP for the Fortuna Honda team, with Marco Melandri having some setup problems and Toni Elias getting a visor full of oil as the GSV-R of John Hopkins gave up a few laps just a few laps in. Nonetheless the riders finished 7th and 8th respectively with Melandri fighting with Dani Pedrosa for most of the race. |

Things are looking up for James Ellison. Having struggled throughout testing and in Spain to get to grips with his Dunlop-shod Yamaha M1, the British rider says he felt 'really comfortable' on the bike in Qatar and finished just 10 seconds behind team-mate Carlos Checa, having been lapped in Jerez. |

To say the past week has been one to forget for the Rizla Suzuki team would be an understatement. A GSV-R retired in almost almost every session and things didn't improve when it was time to go racing, as both John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen were out of the race within 10 laps. |

With five podium finishes in a row Nicky Hayden has been one of the most consistently quick riders in MotoGP lately, and with a second place in Qatar taking that record to 6 in a row Nicky's now in a good position to challenge for the championship as the season continues. |

After spending about two days longer than it should have taken travelling to the Losail circuit, Casey Stoner arrived just a couple of hours before the first free practice session began. He went quickest. In FP2 he was second fastest by 0.006 of a second, in FP3 he was quickest and then he qualified on pole. The Australian rookie could 'only' manage fifth on race day but there's clearly much more to come. |

After a disastrous start to the season in Spain Valentino Rossi was back on top this weekend at the Losail circuit, where his chatter problems seemed to be more or less a thing of the past. Elsewhere in the Camel Yamaha garage things weren't quite so rosy, with Colin Edwards suffering from 'front-end problems' that meant he was a few seconds off his expected race pace, finishing in ninth. |

Valentino Rossi got his 2006 championship defense back on track today in Qatar, taking first place in a close-fought race which saw the final podium finishers split by just 1.5 seconds. The Italian star has now won 54 races, equalling Mick Doohan's record. Now only Giacomo Agostini has won more races in the history of grand prix motorcycle racing. |

Casey Stoner has continued his domination at the Losail International Circuit by qualifying on pole for tomorrow's Qatar Grand Prix, having also been quickest in 2 of the 3 free practice sessions. This was only the second MotoGP qualifying session the Aussie rider had taken part in and his pace will have stunned many as well as embarrased some of the more experienced Honda riders. |

The KR211V of Kenny Roberts Jr went quickest in Qatar earlier today during free practice, demonstrating the potential of the Honda-engined bike. Kenny completed a 1'56.905 to go quickest although he may have benefited slightly from drafting Loris Capirossi, who he had been following closely over the course of the lap. |

After a nasty highside during the Spainish Grand Prix's warm-up session, Kawasaki rider Randy de Puniet says his injured hand is now 'a lot better' and he hopes it won't be a factor in Saturday's race. The French rider retired in Spain because of the injury and now just hopes to finish in what will be the second race of his MotoGP career. |

The Spanish race was a good start to the season for the Repsol Honda team, with both riders finishing on the podium. As the MotoGP circus moves to Qatar Pedrosa will be looking for another finish at the sharp end and Hayden really just needs to beat his teammate. |

After a 'nightmare weekend' in Spain the Camel Yamaha team will be hoping they can get another championship winning season back on track. After a 'very useful' test after the Jerez race the team seem positive and suggest they have found some settings which may reduce the chatter problems which have plagued both riders recently. |

Ducati head into the Qatar GP with one of their riders leading the MotoGP championship, for the first time ever. Loris Capirossi will be looking to build on his perfect start to the 2006 season and Sete Gibernau will be hoping that he's finally used up all his bad luck, after retiring in two consecutive races with a mechanical/electrical fault. |
