It was a dream weekend for Dani Pedrosa, taking his debut pole position and race win in just his fourth ever MotoGP. Elsewhere things weren't so rosy, with reigning champ Valentino Rossi not only struggling from another poor grid position but being forced to retire with a front tyre problem. |

Dani Pedrosa has achieved his first ever MotoGP pole position in China. The Spanish rider put in a 1'59.009 on a slightly damp track, following a brief downpour halfway through the session. |

Valentino Rossi went fastest in both of today's rain-soaked free practice sessions in Shanghai. The world champ notched up a defiant race win in China last year in similar weather conditions and has been hugely fast in the rain ever since. The weather forecast says that more rain is expected tomorrow and Sunday doesn't look too hot, either. |

Tomorrow sees the start of the GP of China race weekend and the beginning of the busiest part of the season, in which seven races take place over just nine weeks. We're now three races into the season and it really is anyone's championship. The Yamahas have been struggling with chatter and then rear grip, Ducati are having second in the championship by a single point and Honda's hoard of rookie riders may have only completed a few races but they're already competing for race wins. |

Marco Melandri took his first win of the 2006 season at the Istanbul Park circuit on Sunday from 14th on the grid. The Italian fought off fellow Honda riders Casey Stoner, Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa in a thrilling race that went from flag to flag. |
