Sete Gibernau begins 2006 as one of the class veterans, having ridden in the MotoGP and 500cc World Championship for the last 10 years. Gibernau has been the 'nearly man' of recent in MotoGP, coming second in 2003 and 2004 to Valentino Rossi. 2005 was in a sense Gibernau's big chance for a championship win, as he received full factory support and 'number one rider' status at Honda. Unfortunately for Sete the year did not go as planned, and after a last corner incident with Rossi at the season opener in Jerez Sete never seemed to get back on his feet, with the race results reading 'Sete Gibernau - DNF' more often than not. Bad luck was also a feature of Sete's 2006 season, best illustrated by his 'fuel starvation' problem on the last lap in Brno. We reckon he simply ran out. In 2006 Gibernau has left Honda for a Ducati ride, where he will be hoping that it is in fact this year that's his year.
