The first race of the season did not get off to a great start for Toni Elias, who missed his braking point trying at the first corner whilst trying to avoid Shinya Nakano. The Spaniard then clipped Valentino Rossi's rear wheel which sent the world champion tumbling onto the floor and very nearly under the wheels of Elias' Honda RCV. Toni lost a lot of time as a result but proceeded to put in a brilliant performance which saw him finish in fourth, narrowly missing out on a podium finish and one place ahead of his more experienced teammate Marco Melandri. All in all not a bad birthday for the now 23 year old. Marco is still having problems getting his RC211V setup as he would like but he still managed a solid result in fifth. Toni EliasElias celebrates his birthday Marco Melandri"It was a very difficult race, but at least we have taken some very important points. The changes we made to the bike during the warm-up did not work as well as hoped and we took a bit of a backwards step. I made a good start but did not want to push too hard and risk the points I had. I am still not very comfortable with the front end of the bike so we'll have to work on that. I am confident and HRC are giving us lots of support, the test sessions tomorrow and the day after will help us improve my feeling with the bike." (0) Comment on this article in our forums |
