Alonso on Rossi - 'I could do the same on bikes' |

It seems that when the subject is Rossi going to Formula One, everyone has an opinion, including F1 champ Fernando Alonso who was quoted by BBC Motorsport as saying, "He might finish fifth or even get on the podium some time, but I could do the same on the bikes if I was given a bit of time to practise."
'Was' quoted is more than accurate as the quote has since been removed and replaced with, "I could start riding a motorbike and, after three years training, be a second from them, but I don't pretend that I could beat Dani (Pedrosa) or someone who has been in motorbikes since they were three years old." Alonso also suggests that, "they [Ferrari] have lost valuable time preparing the cars for the show they put on." The Spanish F1 champion's remarks are more than likely pre-season mindgames no different than those Rossi himself excels at, but the adjustments to the article suggest that the original quote was perhaps a bit stronger than intended. With Michael Schumacher, an F1 driver of let's say 'fair' talent, lapping the Mugello circuit at best 25 seconds slower than Rossi's own lap record, we would certainly be interested to see Alonso on a MotoGP bike with the opportunity to back up his claims. Although perhaps he'd be better off sticking to scooters for getting around the pits.
