After spending about two days longer than it should have taken travelling to the Losail circuit, Casey Stoner arrived just a couple of hours before the first free practice session began. He went quickest. In FP2 he was second fastest by 0.006 of a second, in FP3 he was quickest and then he qualified on pole. The Australian rookie could 'only' manage fifth on race day but there's clearly much more to come.Casey Stoner
"My physical condition was also a factor today and I wasn't feeling 100%. I thought I could have got a better result today. I missed a lot of pre-season training and then I had the flu and after ten laps my leg began to cramp up. When Valentino came passed for the lead I wasn't surprised, it was only a matter of time, and over the second half of the race I had a good battle with Loris and Gibernau."
