The day looked as though it would be dominated by the Aussie Casey Stoner, who went quickest in FP1 and was leading the timesheets for most of FP2, despite the fact he only arrived at the circuit at 8:00am after problems with his flight. In the end Casey's best lap was just 6 hundredths of a second off KRJR's time which is more than impressive for what is only his second MotoGP.

Melandri rounded out the top three places with a 1'57.010 in a session where all of the top ten times were within 0.6 seconds of each other.

Valentino Rossi concluded FP2 in 6th place, two spots behind teammate Colin Edwards.
