Melandri Starts The Weekend On Top

Marco Melandri has gone fastest during today's free practice sessions at the Sachsenring in Germany, despite recently learning that he has a broken collarbone. The Fortuna rider is still recovering after his crash at Catalunya a little under a month ago but in his words 'the worst is over'. Watch out Hayden, Pedrosa & Rossi then?
Second fastest was Dani Pedrosa who dominated most of FP2, consistently putting in very quick laps. The Repsol Honda rider eventually lost out on provisional pole by 0.34 seconds after Melandri put in a stunning fast lap that was around half a second faster than he had been lapping previously. As has come to be expected from MotoGP practice sessions, qualifying and racing there was next to nothing between many of the riders, with the fastest 12 riders eventually being less than a second apart.
